Restoran Wan Seafood & Tomyam Sara Thai Kitchen, Kuantan

It has been 2 years for not reporting myself to Kuantan, so here I am to add additional good food from Kuantan in my blog. The name of the restaurant is Restoran Wan Seafood & Tomyam Sara Thai Kitchen. It is kinda long name for this restaurant. It is just located opposite Continental Hotel. So very easy spotting for this restaurant especially at night because they are the brightest!

Overall: 4/5 - Looks untidy but the taste is all that matter. Delicious squid which is the very least is not fishy but tangy. When it mixed together with the crunchy cashew nuts, they are just perfect match. The highlight of all is the chili oil sauce. Without it, this dish is just and ordinary dish. In the end, I keep scooping the chili sauce to fill with my leftover rice. We should have ordered a big portion instead.

Kangkung with Oyster Sauce (small) @RM4.00

Overall: 3/5 - It does not always have to cook with belacan only you will taste the delicious kangkung. That's what this restaurant has shown to me. A simple oyster sauce can make this ordinary kangkung to be super delicious.

Steam Seabass in Tomyam Gravy @RM26.00

Overall: 3/5 - Trying something new since it is a Malay restaurant in Thai style. So I decided to ordered something related to Tomyam. It turned out to be absolutely delicious! The fish is not bad but when mixed with the delicious tomyam gravy, the fish meat becomes extra sweet with a little spicy kick. Perfect for me. I have made a right choice!

Luckily I did not ordered their tomyam. A group of Japanese expatriates very kindly to gave us a bowl of Tomyam soup to us. For them are very spicy but delicious. However, in my opinion, their tomyam is a disaster. If to compare with an authentic Thai Tomyam, their tomyam is very far from their standard. Their tomyam is only concentrate on the spiciness which has caused our throat burning with it. A real tomyam for me is the moment you take a sip you will
taste the spiciness, a little sweetness and sourness roaming in your mouth. When you swallowed it, it does not gives you the burning sensation. That is a perfect tomyam!
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant not just because their food is delicious but their price is reasonable too! Just avoid from ordering their Tomyam Soup at all cost.
