Dining on The Rocks @The Sixth Senses Villa

I always trusted Google to give me exact direction to the place that I wanted. Seems like it is not reliable at all especially when you are in some rural areas. I thought Koh Samui should not be a rural area but still it took me exactly 1 hour and asked 4 locals to get us to this restaurant which is called Dining on the Rocks. It is located inside a 6 stars resort called The Sixth Sense Villa. However, this villa located way too deep inside.
Finally, I got here. If you need me to guide you to here, you should look for The Sixth Sense Villa, not Dining on the Rocks. The locals can guide you there better.
They do provide a buggy service like this to any part of their villa and to the restaurant too. It is quite a distance from the reception.
Here we are dining on the rock...you thought our chairs and table should be made of rock or something right? You are wrong...
The meaning dining on the rock is this dining area is made above a cliff which is just by the sea as you can see from here.
It is a French restaurant and their menu is in a set course from appetizer to dessert instead of ala-carte style. However, you can insist to have the ala-carte style but the price is almost same like with set course price. The difference is if in the package you can try more variety but the portion is very small. If ala-carte, the portion is bigger but you only able to taste one food.
We are drinking a broken glass?? No, it is just a decoration but it looks real! Anyway, before I start with the food and drinks I have to let you know that this dinner took us from 6.30pm until 10.30pm. Exactly 4 hours. Not just because there are a lot of food served but the waiting period between each dishes taking from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
Before starting the course, let me introduce their drinks. There are a lot of drinks for you to pick on and all of their healthy drinks has a description on how does the drink helps you in your health. This is a Plum Soy Shake @170 baht which is good for digestion and indeed we had our immediate effect after the meal. LOL
There also offer mixed juice @190 baht. The best part is you can mixed as many juices as you like but you have to bear the consequences of course! =D. This is the mixture of honeydew and banana. Delicious! I like my creativity!
Too delicious so I decided to try the next mixture using watermelon, rambutan and apple. Well, it is not weird at all when I can taste all three fruits in one glass. Perfect!!!
We start of with breads and breadsticks. The best part is the pumpkin curry paste. It is so delicious so I have another top up for the sauce and also the bread! Yes, you can top up as many times as you want.
Another starter which is a scallop dress with their own sauce. It is gone in a bite enough to make me get started for more because it is really delicious. FYI, we ordered 2 set courses which are called Experience and 5 From Allan. So I will start of with 5 From Allan which consists of 5 simple dishes which cost @2400 baht.
1 Second Scallop Blast
Outlook: 5/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Carefully sliced thin scallop pieces with lemon oil and basil. Very delicious and definitely not enough. The white color is the cheese which you can mix with it to eat. Another different enjoyment.

Bubble Gum
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 4/5 - Dine a bubble gum? That's weird to have at the second course. Should be at the dessert right? Anyway, they made of mozzarella cubes, mix berries, yogurt and beet carpet. Sweet and sourish taste which is trying to open up your appetite. Indeed...I got hungrier later but the next course took me more than 30 minutes.

Chicken Quesadilla
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Chicken breast dressed with liquid tortilla, orange marmalade, tapenade, bell pepper and tomato. Deliciously done especially the chicken is well roasted and accompanied by sweet and sourish sauce to bring different kinds of fun in it. However, that piece of chicken breast is just too small. I wish I can had a bigger portion for this.

Lamb Chermoulah

Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - So many dressing which you can't even find where is the lamb. Don't worry, I will explained for you. They are consist of corn porridge, goatcheese, sauerkraut, hummus and anise salsa. I experienced a whole new level of appreciating lamb and I hope to find this recipe in Malaysia!!!

Tiramisu Breakdown
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Why it is called a Tiramisu Breakdown? Actually from the picture already shown that these are the ingredients to make a common Tiramisu dessert. So right now they are breaking down them and displayed it like this. Creative? Absolutely! These ingredients are chocolate, biscuits, mascarpone and Tiramisu ice cream. I love the idea in this dessert and they are absolutely delicious!

Every dishes took so long to serve with a purpose because they want us to eat less and communicate more. That is the westerner style but for us in Asian. We usually eat everything on the table only we communicate. I really prefer the westerner style but I hope the timing of the delay can be reduced from 30 minutes to 10 minutes. Every time when they served the food, the waiter or waitress will give us a little briefing on how the food is made. Actually I hardly can hear what they are talking about because their English is not very fluent. Anyway, let's start our next course which is called Experience @3200 baht and consist of 10 dishes!
Oyster "Rock" Efella
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - I prefer raw oyster somehow.

Hamachizushi
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Hamachi is known as Japanese amberjack or yellowtail. The meat is chopped into pieces and been remade again into a slice like bacon. Accompanying with it are sea vegetable, rice, wasabi and lime foam. You have to give the full marks for the creativity and as for the taste, I wonder how it is looks like if is in a bigger portion because I really love this dish.

Salmon Teriyaki
Outlook: 5/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Looks like sushi but it is all wrapped with Salmon meat. It taste really delicious and this one piece really not enough.

Creativity: 2/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 2/5 - Just Pamelo with salt.

Wagyu Beef Rib Eye in Adobo
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Adobo is in Spanish which is a seasoning or sauce made from paprika, oregano, salt, garlic, and vinegar to preserve and enhance its flavor. The beef is well done to have the adobo with it. A truly different experience of having a simple steak.

Peanut Butter and Jelly
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - Buttery bread with crispy milk and dried grapes. One word for it - "Weird". Pardon me for failing to appreciate this dessert.

Making a reference to a Campfire
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - It is made like a campfire with the ingredients of graham wafer and chocolate, charred marshmallow and smoked vanilla contrasted with passion fruit. The combination for me is quite weird and I unable to appreciate the true meaning of this dessert as well.

Overall, this is a truly different experience for me. I never really dine in a restaurant like this serving course by course with a 15 minutes - 30 minutes delay each. Hardly keep up with such culture because at that moment I was really hungry. Anyway, it is way too expensive to dine here unless it is a special occasion. One thing I have to credit this restaurant is their attention to detail which makes you dine like a king and queen.

Total Damage: 7238.55
