Uncle Frog, Kluang

Today, I would like to introduce a dessert house in Kluang which I have known of since 1998. The dessert house is called Uncle Frog. Last time, they were opened at Kluang Baru and now shifted in the town area.

Their English name is Uncle Frog but the meaning of this Chinese name is Little Frog. Why it is like that?
The miracle machine!
A little vintage style of design in this dessert house. They are not just offering dessert only but also some simple noodles and rice for lunch and dinner. Actually, you really cannot survive in a small town like this with just selling dessert only in such an expensive rental like what Sweet Hut, Poon Kee Dessert and Chinatown Dessert did.
A little short story of the history of ABC a.k.a Ice Kacang. I would like to try how the way they eat somehow. Seems more delicious that way.
These are their signature desserts and snacks which I had as well and going to show you all later.
They do sell abalone porridge too which is at RM5.50 per bowl. It is only available after 1.00pm.
Abalone Porridge @RM5.50

Price: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - Of course the porridge is not as smooth as Hon Kee Porridge. However it is consider not bad for this standard of porridge in Kluang. They chicken slices are all over the huge bowl of porridge. As for the main ingredient, the abalone. Do not expect them to be the first grade abalone but I do not mean they are fake. It is just that not the highest quality.

Uncle Frog Ice Kacang @RM4.50

Price: 3/5
Overall: 4/5 - I am honestly telling you that I have not tasted such a delicious ice kacang for a long long time. The brown sugar and milk spread nicely throughout the shaved ice. The most important thing is the ice! It is so fine which you don't have to bite the ice unlike what other ice kacang stall that I have experienced. Another plus for this ice kacang is they are not stingy with their ingredients at the bottom. I really hope they will consistently maintain this standard. P.S: The brown sugar is not taste like in Melaka but is equally good. If you are a hardcore Melaka brown sugar fan, you may not like this.

Peanut Dumplings @RM2.90
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 2/5 - The peanut dumplings are quite small in size but that does not matter the most. What really matter is the filling. The filling is so hard and the sugar is somehow more than the peanut. I prefer soft fillings where all the peanut spilling out in your mouth. As for the garlic soup, is pretty spicy but not as spicy than what I had at Chinatown Dessert.

Salad You Tiao @RM6.00
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - The you tiao is very crispy and crunchy but nothing special with the mayo so I will rate this as a so-so snacks.

Red Bean Soup @RM2.50
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - They put some dried orange skin into it which has make this normal red bean soup to become extra delicious.

Hong Kong Ju Chang Fen (Prawn + Chicken floss) @RM3.90
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - I have to give the full credit for their Ju Chang Fen which is so soft and smooth. As for the whole taste, it is at par with small amount of prawn and chicken floss to taste.

Overall, they really live up their name with their signature dessert which is the ice kacang. I will always come back for their ice kacang.
Total Damage: RM7.40
Ambiance: 3/5
