Ham Rong Mountain, Sapa

Ham Rong Mountain is located close to the center of Sa Pa Town and its elevation is the lowest point in the South of 1,450m, the highest is 1,850m. Topography with an average slope angle of about 30 degrees. Ham Rong is surrounded by many different types of mountains, evergreen forests with other broadleaf trees. With the height of the top, there have almost no more trees, sporadic bamboo mountain and wind of dust.

From the top, you will get to see the whole Sapa town. It is an amazing scenery to be at. The ticket price is 70,000vnd per person. 

There are many legends about this mountain. The most interesting folklore is said that when Sapa was sinking in the ocean, two dragons brothers came here, his father discovered that thing so he called two dragons to come back home. The big brother dragon heard so he few into the heaven, the little dragon was playing in The Water Palace who could not hear. After a long time, the little dragon few into the heaven but it had closed. The little dragon had to stay on the earth forever and he turned into a mountain.

The main geomorphology is Casteur. An interesting activity is conquering San May (Cloud Yard), the peak of Ham Rong Mountain at the altitude of 1800m to enjoy the imposing panorama of Sapa town. In sunny days, from here tourists can even see the peak of Fansipan under clear sky with white cloud floating around. 

Along the way to San May, tourists may drop by Cong Troi 1, Cong Troi 2 (Heaven Gate1 and 2) for resting and photo taking. These places also offer visitors a great view to French villas and terraced fields below.

If you are not rushing it, this place can be a full half day trip. Otherwise, it is just good for 2 hours the max. You will just need an hour to get to the top. Pure relaxation once you are at the top, enjoying the breeze and a cup of traditional Vietnamese tea. Just make sure you are well shaded. The sunshine here is merciless. You will feel the burning sensation on your skin. 
Nonetheless, when you are travelling with energetic, bubbly and fun loving friends, anywhere will become very interesting.  Ham Rong Mountain is not a must visit spot but if you have the time. Do consider about it.
