Thac Tinh Yeu (Love Waterfall), Sapa

Talking about Sapa, travelers often remember its peaceful fresh atmosphere, terrace fields stretching from mountain to mountain or colorful valleys while many others memorize romantic waterfalls, and Love Waterfall is the outstanding one.

Don't forget to make at the Trạm Tôn View Point along the way to the Love Waterfall. At 1,900 meters height it is the highest pass in Vietnam. The pass is often referred to as “Heavens Gate” because of its picturesque landscapes, which you see here. It’s like a gateway to heaven. Tram Ton Pass is about 15km from Sapa, when you drive on the road to the other side of Fansipan (mountain) and the Hoang Lien Mountain Range. Most people also stop at the 100 meter high Thac Bac (Silver Waterfall) at about 12 kilometers from Sapa. It is perhaps alone worth the drive down here to experience the incredible views from the top of the mountain pass. From a vantage point on top of the mountain pass you have an unobstructed view of the beautiful Fansipan on the other side of the valley with huge lush forests, especially on clear days.

Far about 14km from Sapa town to the southwest, Love Waterfall is situated in San Sa Ho commune, Sapa district, Lao Cai province. It is one of the indispensable tourist sites in the journey of discovering Sapa travel. Love Waterfall Sapa is also the starting point of climbing travel itinerary conquering Fansipan peak. Before setting foot on here, tourists will have a chance to discover the beauty of the primitive forests surrounded by taciturn mossy old canopy of bamboo. The lush immense bamboo forest is flickered with red, yellow and white of azalea flowers. The spectacular scenery like the ink-wash painting has bought Love Waterfall to become one of appealing tourist attractions in Sapa alluring the great number of both domestic and international tourists.

In order to go to the Love Waterfall, visitors have to go on a red dirt road running through the lush and vast bamboo forest and gentle beauty of rhododendron flowers with the diversity of colors such as red, white, yellow, which creates the particular scenery here. Along with this, you will hear the soothing sound of the rustling of trees in the wind and birdsongs.

From far sight, the waterfall looks like a twinkling pyramid under the sun. With a height of about 100m, it starts from the peak of Fansipan Mountain and rush noisily into the Gold Stream like a never-ending song. Under the waterfall, the Gold Stream runs along with green grass plots and bamboo clusters, forming a poetic image. The stream flows the forest endlessly, to some places that only passionate people dare to venture into.

Love Waterfall is now situated in Hoang Lien National Park. The name of this waterfall, Love, originates from a legendary love story that has been told to generations in this land. The story tells that long time ago, this waterfall was the bathing place of fairies from heaven. One day, a fairy was mesmerized by flute sound of a young boy near the fall, so she spent every night listening to his melodies. Not long time after, her parentscame to know the secret, and forbade her from coming back to the fall. The passionate fairy transformed herself to a bird so that she could live with her love forever. From then on, the name Love is born.

The entrance fee is 45,000vnd. It is worth to pay the fee since they have really well maintained this place. To get to here, you either rent a motorbike or a car. There is no public transport to get here. I really do recommend to visit here if you are going to Fansipan. It is around the same area.
