Next is the Deer Cave after my exploration in the Lang Cave which is sitting just next to this cave. Even there are side by side but their cave structure is totally different.
The entrance of the Deer Cave is wider, bigger and taller than Lang Cave.
It is called Deer Cave is obviously because there were a lot of deer coming in and out this cave. After men exploration into this cave, the deer has switch their habitat to another place.
The ceiling is really high and there are lack of artificial light in this cave. Everything is fully depending on the sunlight.
It is another feeling to have bright sunlight shining through the entrance of the cave. By the way, as you can see on the right side of the pillar, they said you can see the side face of the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The angle must be really right and you got to have the imagination for it to see it clearly.
This cave is bigger and will takes you about 15 minutes walk around the cave excluding photo shooting time.
Apart of the structure, this cave smells really bad because of the guano, bats' faeces. There are millions of bats living in this cave. If you are "lucky" enough, you might get bats dropping from above. Not just smell but you can hear the bats' sound as well in this cave.
If you cannot stand with the smell, do bring your mask before entering this cave.
The lights are insufficient and flashlight is almost useless because unable to shine this big cave. So if you would like to take photos in this cave, you have to set your aperture the highest the lens can. For example, F1.8 for my lens. ISO will be set to really high but be prepared for the grainy effect which also known as noise. ISO 6400 is my maximum grainy effect that I can accept for my photo. Next, is to reduce the speed as slow as possible so that more light will absorb into your lens. Usually I use between 1/5 - 1/10. Lastly, you need a good pair of hands and legs to avoid shaking the camera.
With the above, you almost ready to get a good picture like this. If you notice well, this picture is shaky. I do admit I am not good at keeping myself steady.
You might need a high speed continuous shot so that you able to get at least one picture that is less shaky.
There are insects everywhere in this cave. So please do not jump when you see crocroaches running around the walkway.
A type of catfish is found in the stream inside the cave.
Sorry because not many good picture that I able to capture in this cave because of the limited source of light.
Ok, as I have mentioned in my previous post before, that you will be seeing bats flying out from the cave at 5.45pm - 6.00pm for the food. Here is their assembly area. Once every bats has reported in, they will fly out in a line. If you are lucky enough again, you will see the bats will assembling around in a love shape.
Here they are coming out from the caves. Their timing is really sharp.
They are flying out in a group so you wont see a continuous line like this for the whole session. They fly out as if they are all belong to the same family and another family will fly out after the previous one has finished.
It is amazing to see the bats flying out like a shape of a dragon.
This session will continue more than an hour. Imagine millions of adult bats grouping at the entrance before flying out from the cave. This process just take a lot of time. Well, it is pleasuring for us to watch it. Below is the video for this but please pardon me because that day I did not bring any telephoto lens so no close up on the bats.
Overall, Deer Cave got nothing much excitement compare to Lang Cave but the only spectacular thing is watching millions of bats flying out from this cave. Truly amazing!
Things to bring:
1) A non-slip pair of shoes or a strap sandal
2) A bright torchlight with extra batteries just in case you running out of battery in the cave.
3) Wear shorts so that you can walk comfortably.

Time for a Chinese cuisine post to add in my blog. Medan Selera Kheng Heong is the restaurant which I highly recommend for anyone whom crave for delicious Chinese cuisine. The moment when I just read their restaurant name, I thought it is a hawker center by the name of "Medan Selera" because it is in Malay language which usually means hawker center. Not really much entertainment in Sandakan even though they are just beside the sea. No nice beach for water activities and the nearest island like Pulau Selingan and Turtle Island are about 90 minutes away. As for the town itself, basically is this bowling centre called Champ's which has a very nice and good condition bowling alley, bowling shoes and bowling bowls if to compare with bowling centres like in KL. Not very big at all for their bowling centre which only has 12 lanes. Their shoes look so new! Here is a demonstration on how to bowl. Looks pro...I wonder how is the end result. So what do guys think? Is it a strike? They have a lounge here as well. And a cafe too! The price of the bowling is cost at RM4.80 per game per pax. We went at their most peak hours so their price basically has not much different than our KL City price. As for the bowling shoes is chargeable at RM2.00 per pax. FYI, the prices not inclusive government ta...
Never know about this place until I watched Ah Xian from the TV Programme which is known as "Taste with Jason". This restaurant is known as Chong Siew Lam Restaurant. No signboard to show this place but this is the only the crowded place in the whole street. They only serve for lunch so do expect great crowd roaming to this place between 12.00pm to 2.00pm. Steamed Tilapia Fish Head @RM20.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 - Tilapia is a freshwater fish and the best is to steam it. Without a doubt, they did it very well. The meat is so fresh but what is the best part is the gravy. Not sure how they made it but it brings a little wine taste in it with spicy kick. Absolutely uniquely delicious! Steam Salted Chicken @RM22.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - By steaming the chicken like that, the gravy has already penetrated the entire chicken meat. This is my first time dining at Sentul and glad to know this great Chinese restaurant which is known as Restoran Makanan Laut Lau Heong. This is the crowd at 6.00pm on Sunday. Crazy right? Let you see from another angle. They just own one shop lot but seems like owning an extra 4 parking space but still they are people standing and waiting for their seat including me! Curry Fish Head @RM25.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - This is their signature. You can choose a normal fish meat or a fish head like this. The curry is not really spicy at all. It contains more coconut milk taste than the curry itself. The fragrance of the curry and the coconut milk work perfectly. I can smell it before it is served. The fish heads are soft, tender, fresh and delicious. Highly recommend to everyone to try. Once again being a free tour guide for a group of people from Yunnan, China to Penang for some nice local delicacies. However, they were complaining about our food is not spicy enough. So since they would like spicy food, the only place I can think of in Penang is The Little Nyonya Cuisine which located at the lower ground of Gurney Plaza. Tomyam Seafood @RM18.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Spiciness Level: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - The seafood contains fish, squid and prawns only which is not bad at all. From Kota Kinabalu to get to Brunei can be done from air, sea and land. From land, there is a bus from Inanam Bus Terminal to Brunei at 8.00am which cost you RM100. The journey is 8 hours and there is one stop for lunch at Lawas. Same thing if you are from Brunei to Kota Kinabalu, the bus will depart at 8.00am at B$45.00. Alternatively, you can take a ferry to Brunei which is also depart at 8.00am. However, there is a transit at Labuan for 2 hours. The total journey is 6 hours to reach jetty and additional 1 hour to reach Bandar Seri Bengawan. You probably will save 1 hour if to compare with a bus ride. RM68.60 for an all inclusive ferry fare for a Malaysian. Malaysian will get 50% discount off for the jetty fee only. Do not bother to survey prices for the ferry fare because same like bus, there is only one company doing this service. The ferry ticket can be purchased at Jesselton Point . The good part about taking a ferry is not just the ferry is more comfortable and faster ...
It has been quite some time I have not had butter crab in KL. The last memory is still vividly in my mind. To refresh my mind again, I decided to dine in Restoran New Wong Poh. I found this restaurant by just typing "Butter Crab in KL" and this restaurant name was listed 6 out of 10 results in the first page. This restaurant must be real good! Lala in Superior Soup @RM12.00++ Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Overall: 3/5 - I know I am here with the main objective of feasting on their butter crab but their Lala in superior soup is something you really shouldn't miss. It is the best starter to have before the crab. Their superior soup is really full of lala taste in it with a wine kick. Extremely delicious. Apart of that, the lala meat is fat and chewy. The best part is the lala is fresh. So don't let yourself blinded by their butter crab and miss this superior soup. Butter Crab @RM55.00++ Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 5/5 Taste...
By the appearance of it, Restoran Yu Hing definitely doesn't look appealing enough to become a tourist spot for you as your dining choice. However, I am still going to introduce to you their noodle. They do serve other variety of food but something worth to be here is only their noodle which is known as Beaufort Fried Noodle. Beaufort is a name of a town in Sabah. This is their very own local delicacies which you won't find it easily at any part of Malaysia or even Sabah. You have to be either in Kota Kinabalu or Beaufort to experience it. We can even hardly able to find a table in this run-down looking restaurant which already suggest that how good they are. Beaufort Fried Noodle @RM9.70 Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 5/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - Still a common looking noodle to you which does not convince you why I am purposely creating a post just to introduce it? You have to come visit for yourself then. I think the same too when it is displayed right in f...
There are two best bak kut teh in Kota Kinabalu that I have known so far. One is known as Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh and the other one is known as Sin Kee Bak Kut Teh. There are just located one street away from each other. However, both of them got the same jam packed customers as you can see from the picture above. You just cannot detect any available seat around. This is how good they are. The one and only chef in action to prepare the whole bak kut teh to all the patrons. The surprising part is the serving speed was extremely fast. Usually when you see so many people, you might think you will need to wait for quite some time but he can make sure you will get your food at the fastest speed. These are the prices after GST is imposed. They do have other dishes to serve too apart of their famous Bak Kut Teh. However, my advice is just stick with their Bak Kut Teh no matter how much the waiter/waitress to push you to order more. The moment you sit down, they will st...
