Ploy, Work @Clearwater

It is great to catch up my Kluang mate at KL. She lives in KL longer than me and still counting but the number of restaurants that she known of in KL not even 10% of mine. So I got to take her out especially to a unique restaurant such as Ploy. Ploy is located in a business tower which is known as Work @Clearwater. Their business hours is the same like ordinary working days which is on Monday to Friday and Saturday is half day.
They have a exquisite private room for private lunch or dinner. Very executive style decorated. FYI, Ploy serves a modern Asian food. With the word "modern", you will know that they are getting cheeky to do some 180 degrees tweak on any well- known ordinary Asian food.
They have a smoking session for diners who smokes. Pretty good ambiance. Do take note that, you really need to make advanced booking to avoid disappointment especially on their Saturday night.
These are their signature drinks which are not using ordinary ice cube but it is a flavored ice cubes. From the left is the Thai Ice Tea Cube @RM13.50++, Ice Chocolate Cube @RM17.60++ and Apple Sour Cube @RM17.60++. Once you have seen the ice cube, you will know actually it is what you may have done with your parents when you were kids.
Crispy Baby Squid @RM10.50++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Not going to make you full but it is a good starter to have! Especially it is so delightful crunchy baby squid with little honey sweet to make you ready for something more.

Tuna Wakame Salad @RM26.50++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - A small bowl of salad with tuna cube, avocado and shoyu dressing. You need to mix the salad well so that you wont ended up eating great amount of shoyu at the bottom. Shoyu is a soy sauce which is quite salty.

Pink Lady Sushi @RM18.50++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - Soft shell crab, avocado and cucumber wrapped with strawberries. Creative indeed to have strawberries in a sushi but the outcome is not really outstanding. The strawberry taste is not appealing and I only able to taste a tiny bit of soft shell crab and the rice...other than that nothing.

Ploy's Black Fried Rice @RM30.50++
Outlook: 5/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 1/5
Overall: 3/5 - The moment this dish is served in front of you, you will definitely say "WOW!". Don't worry about the rice, it is not over cooked or whatsoever which your wild mind is going to play with you. It is just a normal rice dyed with squid ink. You need to mix the rice with raw egg before you eat. Yes, it is very fragrance and delicious together with the 4 pieces of fresh tangy prawns. No matter how delicious it is when you thinking back again after you footing the bill, you are paying more than RM30.00 for a bowl size of black rice. In your mind will have this thought, "Actually, it is not that delicious anyway." LOL

Linguini Mentaiko @RM24.50++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - Honestly under their pasta session, there are not a lot of pastas to choose from but surprisingly it is hard to make a decision. Each of their pastas are very captivating enough by just the name of it. I will name a few for you to judge. "Abalone Somen", "Pasta from Heaven", "Squid Ink Spaghetti", "Angel Hair Shrimp", "Spaghetti Spicy Lamb Rugout" and many more. What do you think? I am not lying and in the end, I ended with this Linguini Mentaiko. Mentaiko means marinated roe of Pollock and Cod fish. It looks a little dry but when I took a bite on it, well...it is still creamy as it should be. Amazingly done. However, the portion is just too small for sharing.

Creme Caramel @RM11.60++
Outlook: 2/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 2/5 - This is a very sloppy done dessert display. Do not worry about the black color dots. Those are vanilla beans. The taste is acceptable but when you have paying so much, you are expecting more than just the taste but not this sluggish display.

Durian Panna Cotta @RM12.50++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Please do rest assure that they are not using some durian flavoring. They really put a teaspoon of "Raja Kunyit" durian in it which makes this simple Panna Cotta to have a very strong and rich durian taste. Very delicious but warning, strictly only for durian lovers only to appreciate.

Liquid Nitrogen Rum & Raisin Ice Cream @RM18.50++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 5/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 4/5 - Another good choice of dessert. This ice cream has real rich of rum taste in it and lots of raisin to chew on. It has been a long time for to search for a delicious rum & raisin like this. However, I have to pay a slightly high price for it which I still think it is worth it.

I will definitely mark this place as my next gathering spot with my old school mates since this restaurant is serving halal food. I have to give 5 stars to their creativity and innovative of making a simple dish to be extra ordinary. A truly different experience when we dining something we familiar with but has changed to a different look. The ambiance is not too dark but it is dark enough to have some privacy of our own. The service is outstanding too. They are willing to spend a little more time to explain to you how their dish is make and will show you how it is look like from their iPad. I will definitely come back for more despite of their price is quite high.
Total Damage: RM222.00
