Lang Biang View Point (Radar Base), Dalat

Lang Biang Mountains is located on Lang Biang Plateau, Lac Duong District, Lam Dong Province. It’s only about 12km from Dalat centre and sometimes called Lam Vien Mountain as well. For those who enjoy the convenience of transport, car and motorbike are absolutely suitable to climb up the beautiful path to Lang Biang peak. Moreover, trek-goers wouldn’t be disappointed with such a challenge. The up-to-the-top-hike takes from 3 to 4 hours. The entrance fee is 20,000vnd (adult) and 10,000vnd (child).
You might want to stop by the hill with Disneyfied Lang Bian sign. There are some workers in cowboy getup meandering with their "zebras" – more accurately, horses painted with black stripes. Up close, the paint job is quite amusing. You may also spot a blue-eyed horse roaming about the hillside. The luxurious option is to rent a Russian jeep to the peak. The whole jeep cost 300,000vnd per car for a two-way trip with maximum of 6 pax. You can choose to tag along with other tourists if you do not have enough people to divide the cost. Please keep in mind that you have to come down together in the same group. It will be troublesome if some members of the group are taking too long time at the peak.
Camping, exploring the natural flora, bird-watching and enjoying the unique culture of ethnic minority groups are recommended activities for tourists coming to Lang Biang. Also, Lang Biang is an ideal place for adventurous activities like mountain climbing, conquering high peaks, paragliding and trekking. “Thung lung Tram nam” (Hundred-year valley) which lies at the foot of the mountain is regarded as an entertainment and ecological tourist site.
The tourist area is located at the 1,929 meter mark on the radar base. The road to the peak is very steep and curvy. You would be wondering if the old jeep is able to do the task especially when it is going down. Anyway, we are safely arrive at the peak and this is the directory of the peak that you should check it out before you start your journey.
Lang Biang consists of the two highest peaks of Lam Vien Highland: Lang Biang (2,167m) and 2,287m high Bidoup Ban, which is often regarded as the roof of Dalat. Lang Biang Mountain has three peaks, (1) a paved road leading up to a radar base which is used by most tourists as it is a simple drive up with jeeps, (2) the actual Lang Biang peak at 2,167m which can be reached by dirt roads/trails and only hiking and (3) an unnamed peak (no details available as of today). The views from Lang Biang's peak include vast valleys as well as the Golden and Silver Streams and Da Lat city itself.
From here, you can the whole city of Dalat. The view is amazing. I really enjoy the cold breeze of wind greenery around me and no high rise buildings.
Legend says that the name Lang Biang was derived from the name a couple who were deeply in love with each other - the boy named K'lang and the girl named Ho Biang. They fell in love with each other after K’lang saved Biang’s life from a fierce heard of wolves. However, they weren’t allowed to get married due to the long-standing feud between their tribes.
Generally, there are two versions of this story. One said that at last, they got married and then moved onto a mountain to live. Unfortunately, when Biang caught a critically illness, K’lang had to come back to the tribe to ask for help, the people here shot him with a poisonous arrow. However, it was Ho Biang to be shot since she had shielded her husband. K'lang could not suffer such loss, he cried and his tear made up a big stream which is now called Dankia (the Golden Stream).
The second version said that: the couple committed suicide together since they couldn’t get married. In both versions, Ho Biang's father was so repentant of his daughter’s dead that he unified the tribes into one called K'ho and allowed boys and girls in K’Ho group to get married to each other. Their graves then grew into the two giant mountains, and in order to memorize the couple with profound love, the mountain range was renamed into what we call it today: Lang Biang.
Sound like eastern type of Romeo and Juliet doesn't it? Anyway, as long as it is about love and romance, it is an attraction to the couples to be here.
You can choose to walk down the grass area which is also the horse dining area. It is not very steep and you can even walk with your high heels. Sorry, just kidding. Not really. It is just we are crazy enough to do so.
People do anything for a great picture. It is worthwhile sometimes as long as you have calculated the risk.
Do try to scream here. It is a good way to release your stress. Do not worry. Nobody will judge you if you are just screaming for one time. If you scream twice, people will think you are crazy. If you do it for the third time, people will think you are about to suicide.
Nonetheless, this is another great place for photography. You may spend at least 2 hours if you are going to take photos at every corner of this view point.
There is one and only restaurant here which is not really recommended for their food. It is not because it is pricey but the taste is not up to standard. You may order their drinks but not their food.
Overall, I highly recommend to visit here. I might come back again for hiking and camping. It should be a great experience.
