Excapade Sushi Japanese Restaurant, Miri

It has been 2 years since the last time I visited Miri. I see a lot of new buildings, new malls and new beaches that are opened. I am truly happy to see the Oil Town Miri is back to its glory. At Tanjong Lobang Beach, there is a new chained Japanese restaurant which is originated at Brunei. It is called Excapade Sushi Japanese Restaurant. Now they have expanded to Miri. I used to dine in this restaurant at Brunei which you can check out the post here.
This restaurant has a lot of branches in Brunei so you shouldn't be surprised when they spend big at Miri to have such a spacious space.

Their menu has been improvising ever since the last time I visited 4 years ago. A lot of the things you would want to try.
Battera Smoked Salmon @RM15.60++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - The combination of the crunchiness, grilled taste, sweet rice and fresh salmon is really how a perfect maki should be done. And they did it just well.

Tai Uzukiri @RM26.40++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - The sea bream fish is finely cut but it doesn't give me the fresh seafood taste. So I do not enjoy it very much.

Dobin Mushi @RM15.60++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Just a few drops of lime juice to entice the entire taste of the soup. It is always my favourite to order a dobin mushi because of its fresh and sweetness in it.

Layered Sushi @RM10.40++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Unagi, salmon and fish roe are all in the sushi. It can't be any better than this. The taste is absolutely delightful and you would want to own the two pieces all by yourself.

Special Sushi @RM14.40++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - This is their new special sushi in the menu which is disappointingly not delicious. It immersed a weird taste which I am not sure what it is but it is definitely a sign of not fresh.

Anago Sushi @RM11.70++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Anago is eel but it is not same with Unagi. Unagi is a freshwater eel while Anago is a saltwater eel. Anago is sweeter and softer which simply just melt in your mouth. It is quite expensive for a piece of Anago at this price.

Salmon Unagi Ikura Temaki @RM12.50++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - 3 most popular ingredients in one california roll is definitely a dream. However, the seaweed wrapper is not crispy enough to give the best overall taste of the temaki.

Shin Haru Maki @RM33.30++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 5/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 4/5 - This is the best dish of all. It is like a Vietnamese roll but the savory sauce mixed with the poached egg is the key to spice up the taste. The Vietnamese roll alike no longer dull and boring after mixing with the sauce. It is absolutely brilliant. The balance of the sauce was later use to dip the Tai Uzukiri.

Overall, I really do see there is an improvement in their menu after 4 years. Not the best Japanese restaurant but it is the best you can get at a town like Miri. You will not be very disappointed by far.
