Upperstar Steak & Chicken Restaurant @Lintas Plaza

First thing to touch down at Kota Kinabalu is looking for a good food. So I went circling around Lintas Plaza and I found a couple of restaurants that are almost full house. Pretty amazing to see how F&B industry in Kota Kinabalu turned out to be this good. One of them is Upperstar Steak & Chicken Restaurant. This is a chain western restaurant which I can almost see at every corner of Kota Kinabalu. I got interested and here I am to check them out.
One thing I need to compliment the restaurant is their well design. All their restaurants are having this complicated vintage design but they do look elegant!
The crowd here are continuously flowing like a river. The moment a seat is empty, the next moment there is a group of customers are waiting beside it. There are almost more than 50 tables in this restaurant and they are 99% fully taken. So you can imagine that. I just have to be there to find out why.
Brown Cow @RM13.80++. It is a delicious alcoholic drink. The restaurant is not a halal restaurant but they are pork free. A lot of different kind of races here to dine in their restaurant. So a halal certified restaurant is not really that important at Kota Kinabalu as long as they are not serving pork.
Baked Mushroom Soup @RM6.50++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - It taste like a can made mushroom soup so it is not pleasing me but the price is quite reasonable for a bowl of mushroom soup like this.

Cheese Baked Mussels (1/2 dozens) @RM11.95++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 5/5
Overall: 3/5 - I started to understand why the crowd is here. 1/2 dozen mussels cost only RM12.00++?? Where else to get? Seriously cheap! As for the taste, not really fresh enough for me. So they put a lot of chili pepper to cover the taste. Not really successful though.

Spaghetti Carbonara @RM8.30++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 2/5
Taste: 3/5
Price: 5/5
Overall: 3/5 - Taste not bad but the ingredient are really stingy. I hardly know what ingredients are inside. However, for a price that is less than RM10.00, it has become my cheapest ever spaghetti carbonara that I ever had.

Ribeye Steak @RM24.50++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 5/5
Overall: 3/5 - Ribeye steak for less than RM30.00?? Where to find it seriously!? It is a grab! However, the taste you just have to settle it as what it is cost. In other words, we need to lower down our expectation if we are looking for a cheap meal.

Overall, I am amazed how this restaurant able to capture the heart of the people in Kota Kinabalu. All their branches are full packed with people and have a better business than ordinary McDonalds or KFCs. Their catching point is their price and not their taste. So if you are looking for a dirt cheap meal, think about this place. Definitely is your best choice. As for the taste, bring it down to the lowest as possible. You won't be letting down by it.
Total Damage: RM75.45
Ambiance: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Food Serving Speed: Very Fast
Recommended?: Yes if you are looking for a cheap western food.
