Restoran Rou Yeng Rou, Kluang

Image
As I have mentioned to you before in my Hakka Republic post that Chinese has a lot of different sub-group. So today I am going to share a cuisine from one of the sub-group which is Fuzhou  also known as Foochowese. It is a minority group in Chinese which is not very common. The restaurant that serves their cuisine is called Restoran Rou Yeng Rou. Located at the corner of a shop lot. Very nicely decorated and everyday you will see their restaurant are quite crowded with people. They only serve dinner. Red Wine Chicken @RM15.00 Outlook: 3/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Most of their Fuzhou cuisine is sweet based. If you are not really like to eat sweet food as your main dish, Fuzhou cuisine might not be suitable for you. Cheese Prawn @RM30.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 - The prawns are big and very delicious! It tastes really like eating Cheezels .  Pork Rib King @RM12.00 Outlook: 4/5 ...

If you ask 1000 of locals in Penang about where can I get the best Assam Laksa in Penang, I can guarantee you that 900 of them will said "near Kek Lok Si Temple ". Actually the place is at Pasar Air Itam which is located at the bottom of Kek Lok Si Temple hill. If you cannot find the place, just ask the direction from any local at the area. They can easily pointed you to the location. This is the place. No special notice board to indicate this place. So just locate where is the wet market and you can easily find him. This is where all the ingredients and the true recipe came from. They are using Sardine fish to boil this gravy with long hours. Look at their noodles. Like a mountain high! Promise  - assure someone that one will definitely do, give or arrange something; undertake or declare something that will happen - according to Google . That is what my good friend, Wei Ling from Singapore promised me since 2008 that she will take me around Singapore if I make a point there one day. I never take it seriously because I were get used with my friends around me given me so many empty promises even a very close one too...until she has to keep repeating herself for 3 consecutive years...that's when I told myself that she is REALLY serious. So I promised her a date 3 months in advance and I make myself available no matter what just to repay her sincere invitation. Amazingly despite her new business launching, close friend birthday and her mom's birthday happened on the same days I will be travelling, she still kept her promised and bring me around to her beautiful country. I really touched with someone keep her promise that well. Initially she wanted to bring me...

Restoran Nyonya Makko, Melaka

Image
When you are in Melaka, searching for Nyonya food or Peranakan food is very common. When you have local who stayed there for more than 20 years like my uncle who recommended me the best Nyonya food in Melaka, you just have to trust him. So he brought me to this place called Restoran Nyonya Makko. This is the place. Located at the corner lot so it is quite easily to be seen. Their main entrance. Very traditional way of the design. Using Rattan chairs and marble tables which brings the great traditional Nyonya feel  They have their old family photos of their ancestors like this in the whole restaurants Sambal Sotong Petai @RM24.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - It looks very spicy. Actually Nyonya food brings more sweetness in their food rather than spiciness. I am not a Petai (Parkia Speciosa) lover so this dish is not really my type. Restoran Sin Hon Kee, Kluang

I moved to Kluang from Kulai, Johor Bahru when I was just 6 years old. My mum always make her best effort to cook everyday and does not really encourage us to eat outside because she claimed that most of the outside foods are unhealthy and it is a waste of money. Yes, she is a thrifty person. However, whenever under circumstances which disallowed her to cook on a particular day, we will always dine in this restaurant called Restoran Sin Hon Kee because they served the best ever beef and pork ball noodles.  This is the restaurant. Still the same place after more than 20 years I am dining here. Their simple restaurant which is always crowded during dinner time and Saturdays. Sometimes you will see queue! This is the same old chef has been cooking and making their homemade beef and pork balls. Even when there is a queue, he is not bother with it by quicken his speed. He still taking his own sweet time making sure every food he made is good quality. This is their pric...
