Nancy's Kitchen, Melaka

I really love Nyonya Cuisine or also known as Peranakan Food but I am getting sick with the overrated Nyonya Makko which is already famous among the tourist. Nyonya Makko is no longer as good as used to be. The ingredient that they use are not fresh and the taste is way off from their initial standard. Lately, I have been hunting for a worthy replacement and I dare to claim that Nancy's Kitchen is one of my favorite selection for Nyonya food.
This restaurant has three storeys and they are easily full house especially during their dinner hour. If you do not have any reservation, you have to be patient to queue up outside the restaurant. It seems like they already famous among the locals.

Ayam Pongteh (small) @RM15.00++
Outlook: 2/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - Ayam Pongteh at Nyonya Makko was so horrible until the extend I am so afraid to order this signature dish of a Peranakan food. However, I gave another shot for this dish at Nancy's Kitchen, absolutely not regret for doing so when they managed to make me love this dish again. It is not too salty and still maintain the fragrant of the gravy which is infused into the soften meat. It is once again a must order dish whenever you visit a Peranakan food restaurant.

Bak Sioh @RM12.00
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - It is a Nyonya pork ribs in tamarind and coriander sauce. The meat is so soft and tender which you do not have to waste to much effort in chewing. The best part is the gravy which can make you add another bowl of rice.

Fish Ball Soup @RM7.00++
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 2/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 2/5 - Planned to order this for my son to eat but even he did not like it at all. It is like a MSG soup for me with ingredients which you can buy from a supermarket.

Soft Shell Crab @RM12.00
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 2/5
Taste: 2/5
Price: 3/5
Overall: 2/5 - The first bite is crispy but what comes after that is truly horrible...the fishy taste and the saltiness leave the unpleasant feeling into your mouth. You might need water in the end and a lots of it.

Cendol @RM4.50++
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Price: 2/5
Overall: 3/5 - As usual, the signature Melaka cendol is always must have no matter where you are. Their authentic brown sugar with fresh creamy coconut milk is definitely a divine pleasure to end your meal with. However, such a small portion with a price tag like this, definitely is overpriced.

They do have their local delicacies and home made kaya for sale. The price isn't cheap at all so not really recommended to buy them here.
Overall, it is still a recommended restaurant whenever you have the Peranakan food crave in you. Just stick with their signature food and you will avoid any disappointment.
