Song Hin Pork Porridge, Kuching

Image
It is not that I love criticising other people's food but sometimes they just forced me to. Do NOT dine in Song Hin Pork Porridge at the Open Market Kuching which is located at the intersection of Jalan Market and Jalan Power. To be safe, just don't dine in any restaurants there. They have a serious hygiene issue. You can see big fat rats and cockcroaches running around freely there. It was so disgusting! They are selling their porridges start from RM3.50. The taste is more like rice in a soup definitely is not the type of porridges which we cook for long hours.  This is the century egg which spoiled my entire Kuching trip. I was hospitalized for 3 days for food poisoning. It was a very terrible experience. My last food poisoning was 10 years ago and I have been very careful since then but somehow I got cheated by the TV program hosted by Axian for introducing their viewers like me to dine here. Lesson learned is do not trust 100% of those TV program which introduces ...

Sin Lian Shin, Kuching

Image
Finally this is my last post about my Kuching trip. Actually before I started this trip, I did my homework about good food and great activities at Kuching. So that's why I able to present to you all these good locations. Today will be the most famous local delicacy of all which is the Kolo Mee. I may have given a brief introduction about Kolo Mee at the Golden Arch Cafe post but that is not really the best. Sin Lian Shin is recognized by the local as one of the best. However, I had a hard time to find this place. I have research a couple of times in the internet and I found that they are quite lazy to give a map location or even an address and even their business hours. It is quite inconvenient for us if we do not have those information and it is quite pointless for them to post in the internet too. Since I understand what I usually need, those information will be given in my every post. Please feel free to click on the map link given at the end of the post. It is very accura...

Ten-Ichi Japanese Restaurant, Kuching

Image
Even at Kuching, I couldn't stop myself from trying their Japanese food here. I found out a decent looking restaurant which is known as Ten-Ichi Japanese Restaurant and I was amazed with the number of patrons in this restaurant. They are fully occupied and in another word is full house. This is the first time I sit on a bar table because most of the seat are fully taken. Well, I do not mind to have up close and personal with the chef. Sashimi on Boat @RM130.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 1/5 Price: 5/5 Overall: 3/5 - Look is deceiving and the price is deceiving too since this is the cheapest you can get in a Japanese Restaurant like this standard. 9 types with 3 pieces each is really really cheap. I was shocked when the chef is explaining to me. However, the taste of the fishes...yucks! Like Sushi King standard which is very fishy especially the Tuna which I almost vomit in front of the chef but I was kind enough to swallow all of them and rinse thor...

Fairy Cave a.k.a Gua Pari-Pari, Bau

Image
Fairy Cave a.k.a Gua Pari-Pari is the second cave that I explored in Kuching after my experience at Wind Cave a.k.a Gua Angin . This cave is also located at Bau which is approximately 18 km away from the Wind Cave .  The cave will be right inside the heart of this mountain. All right let's start our exploration! Oh, by the way. There is no entrance fee will be charged in this cave unlike the Wind Cave . Yes, you will see this four-storey high tower which you need to climb to reach to the entrance of the cave. You may start to sigh or grumbling of its height. Don't worry, we have an alternative road to the the entrance. How about this route? Hehehehe...I think you should know which route to choose by now. After a few puffing sound and sighing sound made by my sister, here we are reaching the entrance of the cave which is just lie beyond this staircase. I believe this four-storey tower has taken almost 50% of her stamina. On the top of the entrance of the ca...

Golden Arch Cafe, Kuching

Image
If you remember that I did mentioned in my previous post that people at Kuching start their breakfast as early as 6.00am. So we are here at Golden Arch Cafe which is located in the Golden Arch Shopping Mall. Please do not misunderstand this place...this place is NOT a shopping mall. I do not why they named it that way. It is just a commercial center. Anyway, what we are about to have today will be reckon by the locals as the best ever Sarawak Laksa that is existed in Kuching. Yes, Sarawak Laksa also known as one of the delicacies in Kuching. Nope, we were not there at 6.00am. We are from west Malaysia so our normal breakfast time will be 8.00am. Actually 8.00am is already consider very early for me. LOL There are selling Kolo Mee too which is also one of the delicacies at Kuching. Actually you will find Kolo Mee everywhere and every corner of Kuching. So many of them. Kolo Mee Seafood @RM4.50 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 3/5 Taste: 3/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Kolo...

Happy Valley Cafe, Kuching

Image
My main purpose to Kuching was to expand my business there and I was so blessed by the great hospitality by clients there who took us to eat some good food and have fun too! One of my clients took me to Happy Valley Cafe which I find it pretty interesting especially their interior design.   They have a man made river stream in the restaurant. It is a daring approach of interior design and also they did it pretty exquisite. However, at times, I feel that it is quite inconvenient for the patrons to walk as we need to cross it and also I feel that the maintenance for this does not comes cheap. A man made waterfall too!! Wow...I wonder how much they spent on this. Sorry about the picture quality because the place was pretty dark. I was carrying a Tokina 12-14mm F4.0 which is pretty difficult for a night shot. Tomato Kueh Tiaw @RM6.00 Outlook: 4/5 Creativity: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Price: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 - Tomato Mee is one of the local favorite...

Damai Beach, Santubong

Image
I have been to Sabah and Sarawak so I have a conclusion that the sun at these places are freaking hot! I mean really hot until you feel the burning sensation on your skin which you will cry for pain. Yes, that is how hot the weather is at Sabah and Sarawak. Truly different than what I always have in West Malaysia. So when we travel to their most beautiful beach at Kuching which is known as Damai Beach, we only able to take some photos instead of swimming there. The sea here are just marvelous. It is so clean and clear which you wish to jump inside the sea without any doubt. After second thought about the fierce and cruel sun, we better don't risk it. At the back, we have Gunung Santubong. This nature landscape is just truly marvelous. It is a splendid and ideal place for relaxation if the sun would be kind to us here. There are some sea activities here such as banana boat, canoeing and island hopping if you want to. The price are quite high so probably you prefer to j...

Imperial Duck Restaurant, Kuching

Image
I forgot to mention about the lifestyle for the people at Kuching which has caused the restaurants at Kuching to accommodate to their norm. Most of the restaurants here are opened as early as 6.00am. Don't be amazed! That's their breakfast hour and their lunch hour is 12pm sharp or before. Most of the restaurants will start to packing up when near 2.00pm. If you travel there and looking for good food, you better plan your lunch earlier and do not bother to try after 2.00pm because they most likely will stop selling even though they still have things to sell. Because I dived earlier on and by the time I get back to the city already after 2.00pm. We hunt for more than an hour for food and in the end we saw this Imperial Duck Restaurant which is opened but has no patrons in their restaurant. I thought they are having a break but I confirming with them, we got a green light. Hooray! This restaurant specialties are their dim sum, duck and soup. They have this cute piggy re...
